This Week's Speaker:

Mike Holmberg

Mike Holmberg is a Regional Risk Manager with Liberty Mutual Insurance. He is on the company's threat assessment team that manages over 500 threats a year, and oversees physical security and uniformed guard services in the US and internationally. Mike has almost 40 years in the security industry.

In his free time, Mike volunteers as the Team President and is a Human Remains Instructor for MARK9 Search and Rescue based in the Dallas area. Mike is also a K9 handler on the team. His current K9 partner is Aspen, a 6-year-old German Shepherd. Team Aspen has been certified in human remains detection by the American Working Dog Association. Mike has been with MARK9 for 14 years and has been on over 300 missions with Aspen and his previous partner Faith, supporting law enforcement on missing persons and cold cases. This work has provided answers to many families regarding missing loved ones.

In 2024, Mike and Aspen participated in a search in Micronesia for 15 people who have been missing for 87 years. This search was part of an investigation into the Hawaii Clipper, a Pan Am trans-Pacific seaplane which disappeared in 1938 in an amazing mystery which has been investigated for over 20 years. Searchers now have information showing where these individuals were permanently buried. [There are links about this info which Club Runner does allow us to use here - a separate email will send this bio with the links attached].

Aspen is a black sable German Shepherd who has high drive and loves to work. She loves her job and just wants to please. She's a little shy when she first meets you but is very sweet and friendly. When she isn't training or searching for MARK9, she loves aggravating her 6 pack-mates, camping, and playing around the house.

Notes From David...

I'm looking forward to our meeting this week -- it will be paw-some!

Our board meeting is Thursday morning at 7:30 this week. It's open to all club members. Let me know if you want to attend. Also, let me know if there are any issues we need to discuss. Our meeting minutes and financials are kept online in Clubrunner should you want to look at any of that information.

In case you didn't read my email earlier this week, I would like us to plan our meeting schedule (speakers and topics) through the end of this Rotary year. My reason for this is that it makes it easier to plan promotions and PR on social media which will, hopefully, help us get more members. That's a large task for Dan to take on by himself.  Would you please think about your contacts, friends of friends, and people you've heard of who would be great, interesting speakers? Then pass the contact information on to Dan. If possible, please "warm up" the contact by making sure he/she is willing, and let him/her know that Dan might be calling.

Most people in the Addison area don't know who we are and what we do. If they discover who we are and what we do, and understand the benefits of being a Rotarian, some of them will want to join us. That's why building out the schedule and doing PR around it is important.

Please remember that Fritzie is our point of contact for Maguires and the meeting room. Please work through her if you have any requests or issues.

We are making progress with our project to acquire chromebooks for the Anne Frank Elementary. They have asked that we amend the project slightly to help them provide language education. With each chromebook we will include a headset and a Rosetta Stone subscription. This will be a wonderful thing for them.

Make it a great day!
