This Week's Program:

Dr. Laurie Sutor:
Update on Rotary's PolioPlus Program

Our speaker this week is our own Laurie Sutor. Dr. Sutor is a physician who got her B.A. at the Colorado College in Colorado Springs, then attended medical school at Emory University in Atlanta, and did her residency in Pathology at UT Southwestern here in Dallas, with special training in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine.  For the next 40 years she worked on faculty at UT Southwestern, working her way up to full professor, doing clinical work in the blood bank first at Parkland Hospital and then at Carter BloodCare, the community blood center.  She especially liked teaching residents and fellows to follow in her footsteps.  Dr. Sutor retired in August 2024 and has been happily reading, tending her garden, spending time with her dogs and doing volunteer work for the university ever since.

Notes From David...

We finalized and submitted our district 5810 matching grant report for the Language Learning Systems for the Anne Frank Elementary School. The total project expense was $3,331.92 which we paid in full by the Addison Rotary Foundation. We should receive $1665.96 back from the District. These funds are actually our money that we donated a few years ago to Rotary International. I don't understand this process fully, but basically they hold the money a few years and then we get to use part of it via the matching grant process.

If you missed our meeting last week, I am happy to tell you that Taylor Meek submitted his membership application! Our board approved it unanimously. He introduced himself at our last meeting. Wendy Seale will induct Taylor into our club in the meeting on May 2 (he will be out of town this Friday).  Some of you know that Taylor is the son of our former member, Bruce Meek, who was President of the Addison Rotary Club. Pretty cool to have a 2nd generation member! Is this our first 2nd generation to join?

Thanks to BK Turner, Randy Lasley, and Brian Williamson we will be able to pay our membership dues with credit cards in the near future. It will cost the club about 2% more than the fees for an ACH withdrawal from your bank account. I am happy to have this option.

Make it a great day!

Looking For a Good Volunteer
I (Laurie) am looking for someone to do the bulletin for one week in May while I am on vacation. I can make it pretty easy for you.
I am also looking for someone who is interested in doing the bulletin full or parttime next year, starting in July.
It's fun and rewarding!  There's a template you can use and just plug things in.  Pretty simple.

Let me know if you are interested.  Thanks.
