Katie Kuehl, Senior Scholarships and Nonprofit Fund Officer and Michala Thomas, Donor Engagement Officer at Communities Foundation of Texas will give an overview of CFT and how it supports donors and nonprofits statewide. They will also give us specifics of the Wallace Wade Endowment that was established in 2021 through a $250,000 estate gift left to our club by our late member Wallace Wade.
This event benefits the Ronald McDonald House. It's a lot of fun. Go a little early and see if you can find all the hidden action figures amongst the model railroad set ups (because the kids and their parents are going to ask you where Spiderman is! Or Darth Vader, or Casper the Friendly Ghost etc). We have 6 slots available that day. Let Laurie Sutor know in Club Runner or in person/email if you want to volunteer.
2) There are opportunities available to sign up now (but they are filling up fast!) if you want to work hosting at the Faith & Grief Memorial Arch in Klyde Warren Park. Remember, we worked with the ribbons from this Arch in August. There are two hour shifts available from Nov 22 to Dec 14 (11 to 1, 1 to 3, and 3 to 5). Each shift can take either 2 or 4 people. Laurie will send you the link to sign up if you are interested.
3) Laurie is working to get us a spot to volunteer with Salvation Army Angel Tree in December, but not at the mall like in the past. That Angel Tree activity has gone predominantly online. Instead we can (hopefully) work at the warehouse during the gift distribution days, helping get the big red bags to the parents as they come to pick them up. More on this if it works out.
What a good time! Big thanks to Mike Pugh for hosting and to Fritzie Roop for making all the arrangements. There were lots of great costumes. I thought "The Deer in The Headlights" was particularly clever and hilarious. It was fabulous fun!
Mark Landson and Open Classical
Didn't you think Mark Landson's "presentation" was awesome? Another terrific program from Diane Fullingim! Marvelous music, terrific stories, and an innovative organization. After watching and listening to him, I'd like to go to a few of the Open Classical Open Mic events, and probably some of their other events. Maybe we could organize a club outing. At last Friday's meeting our "spooky surprise program" was musician and composer Mark Landson playing some classics, some Halloween-themed songs, and some of his own compositions for us, as well as talking about his organization, Open Classical (see David's notes for more info)
