This Week's Speaker:
Will Evans, founder of Deep Vellum Publishing

Mr. Evans will share insights into the challenges and rewards of building a business centered on elevating international literature, activating local readership, inspiring stakeholder investment in the literary arts in  Dallas for the first time, diversifying and demystifying the publishing industry, and offering a blueprint for creating a sustainable, alternative economic model based on an inclusive, diverse, and fun value proposition for publishing.

This talk will inspire entrepreneurs and artists alike, literature enthusiasts, and anyone interested in the power of language and culture to transform the world we live in.

Be There Or Be Square

Don't forget: 40th anniversary of the Addison Rotary Club on the roof at Maguire's on Wednesday, October 30 at 5:30 pm.  Cash bar. The club will provide the hors d'oeuvres for the event.  Feel free to invite past members and prospective members.

Our Newest Member

Last Friday our club inducted our newest member, Wayne Emerson.  Wayne is the Director of Economic Development for the Town of Addison. He has previously worked with the cities of Denton and Dallas.  He has an MBA from the University of Texas, McCombs School of Business.  He is a veteran, having served in both the US Army and the US Army National Guard.

Welcome Wayne!

        Notes From David...

Our Addison Rotary Board met last Thursday and discussed the holiday schedule.  We will NOT meet on these dates:
  • November 29
  • December 27
  • January 3
I know we typically don't meet the Friday after our Holiday Party (which will be December 18) but this year we will have a casual meeting on December 20, and presumably a visit from Santa.

Speaking of Meetings...
Our meetings start at 7:30AM, but that doesn't mean you have to walk through the doors right at 7:30. You could arrive early and chat with the other smart and fascinating Addison Rotarians. I recommend arriving at 7:15!

Top 10 Reasons for Arriving at 7:15
10. You will get quality time with the Amazing Frank Swingle who ALWAYS arrives early
 9. It will be easy to squeeze in another cup of coffee and leave at 8:30 properly caffeinated
 8. First in line for food means first in line for seconds!
 7. Less traffic = less stress
 6. Debate college football with Jeff
 5. Discuss famous battels with Dan
 4. Get free therapy from Cathy
 3. Find out about Keith's experiences with The Grateful Dead
 2. Ask Wayne about Addison business development

And the number 1 reason for arriving at 7:15...
 1. You will feel even more righteously sanctimonious when Jay arrives

There you have it; see you at 7:15!

Polio Awareness Day is this week (Oct 24), so let's have a trivia question about polio.
What famous female artist, born in Coyoacan, Mexico in July of 1907, was afflicted by polio as a child?  Hint: her life and art are currently featured in an exhibition at the Dallas Museum of Art.
Answer is at the bottom of the bulletin.
