This Week's Speaker:
Our Own Mike Pugh -- Rotary Youth Programs

I am a Retired Senior Program Manager for Texas Health Resources

My Rotary experience has been since 1985 in Tulsa, OK.  While in the Sunrise Rotary Club I was International Director and was able to host a Youth exchange student from Latvia.  Held many offices in the Sunrise club and was Rotarian of the Year.  In the early 90's I was Team Lead for a 6 person Group Study Exchange (GSE) team to Thailand, what a wonderful experience.

After moving to Dallas in 1995 I joined The Addison Rotary Club.  Have held each local club office at one time or another including President of The Addison Rotary Club.  In 2010 I was able to lead another GSE team, this one to India.  Few people lead one GSE team and I was able to lead two.

I have been involved with Youth Exchange for over 25 years. Currently I am Youth Exchange Officer (YEO) of District 5810. We are part of SCRYE (South Central Rotary Youth Exchange) a multi-district organization helping 37 districts in 19 states work through Rotary Youth Exchange. Currently I am President of SCRYE for 2024-2025.

Started my ShelterBox career in 2007 and have been an Ambassador since. I was one of the first Texas Ambassadors back in 2007.

        Notes From David...

I will be out of town attending my Aunt’s memorial this Friday, but Gene Leposki will cover for me and probably do a much better job. I’m disappointed to miss Mike Pugh’s presentation. Mike’s commitment to the Rotary Youth Programs is impressive, and on top of that he’s taken on our Community Service. We appreciate you, Mike!

We have our financials from the first quarter of this Rotary year. (Thank you Randy Lasley and Brian Williamson!) Our budget projected a loss for the first quarter. In fact, we had a positive net income of $4,602. While that feels good, it reflects that we didn’t spend funds on some projects (like Marketing and PR) that we intended to. Nevertheless, it was a good quarter, and we accomplished a lot. In the interest of full transparency, our financials are in the documents section of Clubrunner available to any Addison Rotary club member.

Big THANK YOU to Laurie Sutor for taking on the Bulletin!

I had an amazing meeting with the Principal of Anne Frank Elementary School, Beverly Mullins Ford, to discuss our donation of Chromebooks and other potential projects. While I was there she showed me the Rotary Multicultural Center that our club funded. This local elementary school has 1100 students who speak 35 languages and represent 65 countries. There is a lot of opportunity for us to help!

I redesigned the Foundation page on our website to make it about the Addison Rotary Foundation instead of the Rotary International Foundation. In the future I would like us to be able to accept donations from that page. Below is the new Foundation page banner. I wanted it to reflect some of the diverse projects the Addison Rotary Foundation has funded. Thank you to Janet Meyer for her review and edits.

Make it a great day!

ROTARY TRIVIA
The Rotarian magazine did a profile in February 2007 of fellow Texan
Matthew McConaughey.  McConaughey was a Rotary Youth Exchange student prior to his successes as an actor.  What country did he visit as an exchange student?   Answer is at the bottom of the bulletin.
