Shannon Gleason Dion is a founding Board Director of the non-profit Secure Our Seniors’ Safety (SOSS). The organization was formed in 2019 in response to the lack of security in senior living establishments. This lack of security enabled Billy Chemirmir, one of Texas’ most prolific serial killers, to smother to death over two dozen seniors in their homes and steal their valuables. It is the mission of SOSS to enact legislation to require common sense security measures that the industry has failed to enact on its own and increase awareness of vulnerabilities in senior living. SOSS has continued expanding its advocacy, public education, and legislative engagement to strengthen safety standards in senior living communities.

Celebrating our Own - Even Without a Trophy.

By Janet Meyer

Our club headed to the District Awards event on August 21 without bringing home a district award this year - but if you ask, our club walked away with something better: a clear-eyed appreciation for the members who make Addison Rotary special.

Even though our club was not called, our club will call theirs!  We're proud to recognize four outstanding Rotarians:

Josh Rollins - Newcomer of the Year

David Heimer - Outstanding Club President

Greg Grimm - Rotarian of the Year

Diane Fullingim - recognized by our club as a “Star”

The fact that we chose to honor these four members says everything about who we are as a club.  District Awards are wonderful, but the ones we give each other are just as meaningful.

Congratulations to Josh, David, Greg, and Diane! And thank you for all you do for Addison Rotary.
